Welcome to Coquitlam Presbyterian Church

How We Got to Where We are Today

God has been faithful in guiding our congregation since its ministry began many years ago. On September 12, 1965, Rev. Maurice McLuhan led CPC's first service at the Simon Fraser Health Unit in Coquitlam. The following year, the congregation was officially constituted by the Presbytery of Westminister. Rev. Ross Manthorpe was appointed as the minister.

As of January 1, 1971, the congregation began meeting at Porter Street Elementary School. In August of that year, Rev. Keith Wilcox became the minister and led the congregation into the building of its first sanctuary. On October 29, 1972, a dedication service was held for the new church building on the corner of Como Lake Ave. and Blue Mountain Street.

In August of 1978, Rev. Terry Hibbert, and his family came to Coquitlam. In 1979 plans were drawn up for a new church sanctuary and office area. On January 10, 1982 our present sanctuary was officially dedicated. Since then our congregation and its ministries have continued to grow. In 1993, further expansion plans were drawn up to add a balcony and second floor. This was completed in 1995.

Rev. Terry Hibert remained the minister of the church until his retirement in the summer of 2009. A new chapter in the life of CPC began in the fall of 2009 as Rev. Graeme Illman became Lead Pastor.

As a church, we are excited about where God is leading us. We are called to listen for the voice of God and walk in obedience to what He is calling us to do. Our marching orders remain clear: to reach others with the love and salvation of Christ, to teach and equip people that they might become mature disciples of Christ, and to glorify God in the work & worship of our daily lives.
